Tatajuba - Brasil from the old days

Only 30 km outside of Jericoacoara, Brazil, lies Tatajuba. Ever changing sand dunes, not too crowded, the great Sunset Beach Restaurant, Showers, Toilet, fantastic wind – basically all you need to have a splendid kitesurfing experience.

Like in the good old days when Jericoacoara was not easy to reach and mass tourism was not yet present, this is how Tatajuba feels. To be fair, it is not a secret anymore in the kitesurfing community, thanks to pros riding here or content creators like Get High with Mike, who unintentionally promote the place. Don’t get me wrong, some infrastructure and awareness are good; otherwise, it's no fun spending your kite vacation there. The question is only how long it will take until this place is as crowded as the lagoon in Guriu or the packed spot in front of Rancho do Kite in Praia do Preá.

Nevertheless, the lagoon is fabulous to ride. Around a few hours before and after high tide, there is enough water in the lagoon to ride. The landscape changes dramatically—we're talking about at least 200 m of empty space that gets filled with water. It doesn’t just seem like it looks different every day; it actually does. The original village was on the other side of the lagoon but got eaten away by sand dunes.

Getting here from Jericoacoara with a regular 4x2 front  car is nearly impossible—at least not without a guide on a moto to help you find the right places to cross the rivers. I don't need to point out that you’re in big trouble if you bury your car in the sand on the beach road. There is a guarantee that the next high tide will come in. For your nerves, your heart, your blood pressure—whatever strikes you when you're pumped with adrenaline—better park your car in Jijoca and have someone drive you here with a proper Toyota Hilux.

Brazil - Tatajuba

The secluded fishing village of Tatajuba, midway between Jericoacoara and Camocin, is a peaceful oasis with a beautiful kitesurfing spot in Brazil. If you're visiting Brazil for kitesurfing and want to forget about the stresses of your daily life, Tatajuba is a must-see destination. The major attractions of this location are the beaches and lagoons, and there are also a few reasonably priced restaurants and various little bars to get a cold Caipirinha. There aren't many stores here, but there is a market nearby to get all the basics.

Tatajuba is a calm and peaceful Kite Spot in Brazil which provides ideal conditions for everyone, from beginners up to professional kiteboarders. You may well bump into some pro riders if you are lucky, as many of them head to Tatajuba to train their big air kiteboarding. This great kiteboard spot in Brazil is ideal for Wake style, Freeride, and Freestyle kitesurfers, but the strong wind means big air kiteboarding is amazing here!

Being there feels very laid back. There is this kitesurf spirit that you do not feel anymore in most of the spots. Either they are super remote without proper infrastructure (shower, toilet, restaurant, proper places to sleep) or they are super crowded where you have to fight your place in the water.

If you ever go to Brazil for kitesurfing, plan a visit in Tatajuba for a few days. You will love it.
