Wind conditions are pretty consistent in Kremasti for kitesurfing, especially throughout the months of June, July and August. During these months, the temperature usually exceeds 30 degrees and remains pleasantly warm even at night, so you won't need a wetsuit for kiteboarding, and you can leave your winter jacket at home. The chance of wind is usually over 90%, and the days are typically sunny with hardly any rain during the summer.&nbsp;The Meltemi thermal wind usually picks up through the morning and blows from the left side of the beach. Between Rhodes and Turkey, it takes a westward swing and pushes its way through the straits so it accelerates into Kremasti. Usually it starts out light in the morning but will average somewhere around 15-20 knots in the afternoon, ideal for learning to kitesurf or practice your best tricks. If you are lucky you will get a morning session, and it’s a perfect spot for hydrofoil kiting as it gets deep quickly.&nbsp;As it’s a thermal spot the forecasts don’t always show exactly what’s going on, so if in doubt contact the local schools for a more in depth explanation of what to look for in the forecast to guarantee wind.

Cape Drepano kite spot itself doesn’t offer much, but there are some cafes and restaurants in nearby Drepano. It’s also a stunning area so renting a bicycle to enjoy the natural beauty is always an option when you’re not kitesurfing, but you’ll want a car to make the most of your time here. Going a little further afield Nafpaktos and Patras are the nearest larger towns, where you can find a bit more going on as well as some more history and culture if that’s your thing. Cape Drepano Kite Spot has become famous in recent years as pro kitesurfers like Youri Zoon and Paula Novotna have been going there to train, and posting pictures and videos of this idyllic flat water spot on instagram. It offers steady wind and butter flat water behind the “sand” bank at low tide in both West and East wind directions, and you can kitesurf year round, although summer is the main season. It offers wind 250+ days per year but can be fickle and sometimes only a few hours kitesurfing at a time, so it’s best to consult the forecasts and get in touch with the local kite schools if you aren’t sure.&nbsp;As it’s not far from Athens it can get crowded with other kitesurfers particularly at weekends in the season, and you’re pretty likely to run into European pro kitesurfers as it’s a nearby destination with consistent wind. Due to the wind direction, size and shape of the spot this is much more suited to intermediate and advanced riders who are comfortable riding in a rotation: i.e. come in, do your trick, ride out, repeat, so everyone gets a spot to practice. You can learn here with a local school if they offer boat rescue, but it’s not a particularly beginner friendly place.

The windy season begins in June and lasts till September, however strong wind conditions can be found throughout the year if you are lucky. The Meltemi thermal wind, which blows from the northeast and is warm in the summer is the predominant wind. During the summer, expect the wind to start off a little light first thing, but then pick up with wind speeds in the afternoon ranging between 16-25 knots. The water of Keros Beach is gorgeous Mediterranean blue, with a white sand beach underneath it. During the summer, the water temperature remains around 25 degrees celsius.Keros Beach is divided into three sections. Due to the shallowness of the water and the offshore wind, the far north end is butter flat but can get busy. The middle part of the beach has modest bumps and jumps but is still shallow which makes it ideal for learning, and down further you’ll find some chop for launching jumps off. If you drift downwind too much don’t worry, it’s sandy at the far end you can get yourself out of trouble easily.

There are restaurants, a bakery, supermarkets etc in Sigri itself so you don’t need to move anywhere else if you just want to eat, kite, sleep, repeat! But if you want a bit of a change then Lesvos has plenty on offer, being the third largest Greek island. You can visit a number of historical sites, with the museum of industrial olive oil production being a popular choice, or go really ancient and visit the temple of Messon. Other than that it’s a popular tourist spot, so the usual beaches, sightseeing options are available, or just go for a snorkel in the crystal clear water.&nbsp;

Located on the western side of Lesvos Island, Sigri is a small fishing village with a protected bay and consistent thermal wind all through the summer, making it a great flat water kitesurfing and windsurfing spot. The Meltemi wind which blows from May until October means there is wind most days, so the lack of local amenities won’t be a problem as you’ll probably spend all of your time on the water anyway. There’s no ATM or petrol station in town, so you need to think ahead if you are coming here, but the relaxed local vibe, traditional buildings and local restaurants offering fantastically fresh seafood all add up to a great package if you want to unwind and get away from it all.

May until October is when the Meltemi wind blows and is the main kitesurfing season, but due to the shape of the bay here you can kitesurf in almost any wind direction and any time of year. From May until October you can expect between 15-25 knots most days, with the wind picking up towards lunch time and blowing until sunset. This is due to it being a thermal wind, so the sun needs to be shining for a little bit before it picks up, and makes for lovely lazy mornings followed by epic kiteboarding afternoons. In the early or late season you’ll want a wetsuit, but June-August you should be fine in just shorts and tshirt.The water is pretty flat all over, with the flattest sections being just near the launching spot and behind the islands around the bay. The wind close to shore can be gusty, so take care while launching and landing your kite. Also be aware of windsurfers on the water, as the spot is popular for both kitesurfing and windsurfing.
