The average wind speed ranges around 9-10 knots across the year, with the highest frequency of windy days observed from September to December. The winds at Orewa are predominantly sideonshore or onshore, ideal for kitesurfing. This spot is also characterized by its shallow waters and mostly flat conditions, although it can vary from flat to choppy, with occasional nice waves. These conditions make Orewa a suitable spot for both beginners and experienced kitesurfers. However, beginners should be cautious as the waves can pose a challenge. During summer, the water is warm, requiring lighter wetsuits, while in winter, thicker wetsuits of around 3mm/2mm are recommended due to colder temperatures.
