Kitesurfing spot in Lake Como

Parè is defined by its exposure to Lake Como’s unique alpine wind systems, with the Tivano as the primary wind for kitesurfing. The Tivano is a thermal wind that blows from the north or northeast, typically starting at sunrise and lasting until late morning, with wind speeds commonly between 15 and 20 knots. This wind is accelerated at Parè due to the local geography, often providing some of the strongest and most reliable morning sessions on the lake. The Tivano is generally smooth but can become gusty, especially during periods of rapid temperature change or when the wind is funneled by the surrounding mountains.

The Breva, a southerly thermal wind, can occur later in the day if the Tivano fades, but it is less common and less reliable at Parè compared to northern Lake Como spots. Breva winds here are typically lighter, in the range of 10 to 14 knots, and are more suitable for foiling or light-wind kites. Other wind systems, such as the Ventone (a strong north wind after thunderstorms) and the Menaggino (gusty south wind after summer storms), are possible but less frequent and often bring challenging, gusty conditions best managed by advanced riders.

Water conditions at Parè are mostly choppy, with wave heights between 10 and 40 centimeters depending on wind strength. The launch area consists of a grassy meadow for rigging and launching, but water entry requires descending a narrow concrete staircase while managing the kite in the air. During high lake levels, riders can jump directly from the steps into the water; in summer, when water is lower, it is necessary to walk 20–30 meters over sharp, slippery stones. There are rocks in the water and a notable boulder about 50 meters downwind from the launch, so precise upwind riding is essential immediately after entering the water. The season runs from March or April through October, with the best wind reliability from April to September.

Parè is situated close to the town of Valmadrera and just a few kilometers from Lecco, providing access to a range of amenities and attractions. The lakeside promenade in Parè offers panoramic views of Lake Como and the Prealps, with several bars and restaurants, such as the well-regarded Hotel Baia di Paré, featuring a pizzeria and terrace overlooking the water. The area is also known for its recreational parks and walking paths along the shoreline.

Nearby, the city of Lecco is notable for its historic center, the Basilica di San Nicolò, and the Palazzo delle Paure, which houses art exhibitions and cultural events. The Piana di San Tomaso, a plateau above Valmadrera, is popular for hiking and offers expansive views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The Sentiero del Viandante, a historic trail, passes through the region and is suitable for trekking and mountain biking.

Valmadrera itself has a selection of local restaurants, bakeries, and shops, and is connected by public transport to Lecco and other towns along the lake. The area is also a starting point for boat excursions and sailing activities on Lake Como. Accommodation options include lakeside hotels, apartments, and guesthouses, many within walking distance of the kite spot.

Parè is easily accessible from Lecco, located approximately 3 kilometers away. By car, follow the SP583 from Lecco toward Valmadrera; free parking is available directly at the beach. The nearest major airports are Milan Bergamo (45 kilometers) and Milan Malpensa (75 kilometers), both of which are connected to Lecco by train and bus. From Lecco, local buses or taxis can be used to reach Parè. The launch area is a short walk from the parking lot, but riders should be prepared to carry equipment down concrete steps and over rocky terrain. Most amenities, including restaurants and shops, are within walking distance.
