Kohilari Beach

The Meltemi thermal wind builds through the morning, ranging from about 10-18 knots, then picks up towards the afternoon and can reach 25 knots, blowing side to side onshore. Kohilari is the best of the Kos kitesurfing beaches; it is sandy, so no shoes are needed, and it also doesn't get too crowded because there is plenty of space on the water. Some people enjoy kiteboarding near the center and there are often people taking lessons, so it may get crowded right in front, but you are not forced to hang around and there's plenty of room for kitesurfing further up the Kohilari beach.

The wind is usually pretty constant, and the water is shallow for around 15-20 meters before it gets deep so it's ideal for beginners and pro kitesurfers alike. When it's windy, little waves break over the sandy bottom, which are great fun to kitesurf in, and the flat sections in between mean both wave riders and freestylers will feel equally at home.

Kos Island is a hidden jewel that's well worth discovering, tucked away and nearly unnoticed amid the many other islands. Kos’ kitesurfing beaches are some of the most gorgeous you'll find in Europe, and if you're around in the summer The Mediterranean has it all, from its stunning turquoise water to its extremely diversified culture and rich history. The south coast of Kos is not suitable for kitesurfing since the wind blows off-shore and the coast is more rough and rocky. Agios Loannis monastery, located on the South Western tip of the island overlooking Paradise beach is worth a visit for some history and culture, and then you can head down to the beach for a dip. The water is very clear and beautiful here, and it's tucked away so it doesn't get particularly busy. There are also plenty of other beaches to discover if you fancy exploring the island!

If silence and tranquilly isn’t your thing, head to Kos Town and enjoy the hustle and bustle. If you need to go shopping, Kos Town is also the best option to go and find a present for your loved ones. There are plenty of guided and unguided tour options on the island, from 4wd to boats, beaches to hilltop monasteries, no wind days offer plenty of alternatives.

Kefalos is located on the island's South Western edge, 43 kilometers from Kos Town. Only 3km away, Kefalos is the closest town to Kohilari beach and a good place to pick up the essentials. Kos International Airport is located in the heart of the island, only about 15-20 minutes from the kiteboarding at Kohilari beach. During the summer, there are frequent flights bringing tourists to Kos from all over Europe, so finding a flight should be really easy. You can take a taxi from the airport to Kefalos for roughly 25 euros, or rent a car yourself for the duration of your stay. It is pretty affordable and the best mode of transportation during your kitesurfing holiday on Kos.
