Bislig Beach Kitesurfing wind conditions

The prevalent wind at Bislig Beach is the Amihan, the northeast monsoon, which blows consistently from November to April. This wind typically comes in cross-onshore to onshore directions, making for straightforward launching and landing. During the peak Amihan season, wind speeds generally range from 15 to 25 knots, with stronger days seeing gusts up to 30 knots. The wind usually fills in by late morning, often around 10:00 AM, builds steadily through the afternoon, and can hold strong until sunset. The Amihan is a regional gradient wind system, driven by the high-pressure system over Siberia and the low-pressure system near the equator. As it crosses the open ocean, it picks up strength and consistency. The local topography, with green jungle hills flanking the bay, helps to funnel and stabilize the wind, creating a relatively laminar flow over the water. The water state inside the bay is generally flat, providing a large area of shallow water for approximately 200 to 300 meters offshore, depending on the tide. Beyond this flat water section, a reef creates a consistent wave break. The waves breaking on the reef are typically medium-sized, often reaching 1 to 1.5 meters, offering good kickers and swells for jumping and riding.

Around the Kiteboarding Spot Bislig Beach

Bislig Beach is a secluded area, approximately 15 km from the town center of Bulalacao. Bulalacao is a small, quiet municipality in Oriental Mindoro, primarily known as a jump-off point for island hopping to nearby islands like Suguicay and Liwagao. The town offers basic amenities, including small local eateries serving Filipino cuisine. There are no large commercial establishments or fast-food chains. The area is not a bustling tourist hub, which contributes to its relaxed atmosphere. On no-wind days, activities often revolve around exploring the surrounding islands, snorkeling, or experiencing the local culture. The presence of the Hanunuo Mangyan tribe in the region means there are opportunities to learn about their traditional crafts and way of life, such as their intricate weaving and unique syllabic script. The pace of life is slow, and the focus is on nature and local interactions.
