It’s the best spot that you don’t need a boat to get to, which makes it a popular place to kitesurf in the area. The lagoon can get busy quickly in the season so knowing how to kitesurf close to others is essential here, but it’s the nicest kite spot in the summer season if you don’t want to get a boat to Vella island. The village itself is very small and the locals are generally friendly and helpful to any foreigners.

Spots like Kalpitiya Lagoon and Big Kahuna in the Puttalam area become popular during this period due to the consistent, strong winds that are ideal for the sport. It's worth noting that this season also tends to bring more rain, particularly in June and July.Northeast Monsoon Season (Maha Monsoon): This season usually extends from December to February. Phan Rang has quickly become one of Vietnam’s most loved Kitesurfing Spots, with a shallow lagoon making it perfect for learning and practicing tricks, and also waves on the outside of the reef so a bit of everything for everyone! The wind in season is incredibly consistent, and Vietnam has a whole lot to offer other than kiteboarding so you won’t get bored in a hurry here.The actual kite lagoon is named My Hoa and is about 16km North of Phan Rang itself, and because it hasn’t yet gained the level of exposure as Mui Ne it’s still a relatively quiet kite spot. The locals are less likely to speak English than in the more touristy spots, but they are super welcoming and lovely, the location is stunning as well as being amazing for kitesurfing, and the food is incredible.

Be careful with rocks at low tide. The wind can get very strong. Best arrange accommodation in advance and a scooter if you want to be able to move around easily.

Phan Rang has wind nearly all year but the main kitesurfing season is from October until April, with the peak being November to March. During this time you can generally expect an average of 20-25 knots, but it can get stronger up to 40 knots semi regularly, so this is definitely a good spot to pack your small kites. If you want to learn or kitesurf in the lagoon you’ll want to avoid the lowest of low tides, as it can get too shallow to be safe, but you can always walk out to the deeper water to kite any time of day regardless of tide. The best bet is to reach out to the local kitesurf schools before you go to check how the tides are. Outside the reef there are some small to medium waves breaking both left and right, and it can occasionally get big and challenging when the wind is strong.From May until October there is a thermal wind which can work here, but isn’t as reliable and can be affected by storms, so again, it’s better to check with the local schools before organising your trip.

For beginners this means, whatever happens, you end up back at the beach.The water conditions at Ganh Dua Beach vary depending on the time of year. From October to March, the water tends to be choppier, with wave heights reaching up to 2 meters, providing an exciting playground for experienced riders. The beach features a sandy bottom with some rocky areas near the shore, so riders should be cautious during low tide. The wind generally starts to pick up around mid-morning, peaking between 11 AM and 3 PM, when it becomes most reliable. Early mornings and late afternoons tend to have lighter winds, which are more suitable for beginners or those preferring a more relaxed session.Reliability is a key feature of Ganh Dua's wind conditions. During the peak kitesurfing season (October to March), wind is almost guaranteed every day, making it a dependable location for kitesurfing trips. Outside of this season, the wind becomes less consistent, but still suitable for kitesurfing, albeit at lower intensities and with flatter water conditions.

The famous red and white sand dunes are just nearby Mui Ne, and as long as there aren’t too many other tourists around it can be really striking and beautiful. You could also visit the local temples and check out the Po Shanu Cham towers nearby. Vietnam in general has a wonderful culinary scene, so why not take some lessons on a rest dat and learn how to make some authentic Vietnamese food, it’s so good!

The South West Summer Season and the North East Monsoon Season are the two main kitesurfing seasons in Mui Ne. During the summer season, running from May till October, the wind mainly blows from the South. It blows every day, but not as fiercely as in the winter. In the summer, the wind speeds range from 10 to 14 knots. It usually begins with a gentle breeze in the mornings, gradually picking up strength as the day passes, and becomes much stronger later in the day. Later in the afternoon, there is a decent and steady breeze, but it lasts only 3-4 hours. This season is more suited to beginners as the wind is a little less fierce. From January through March, the wind gets to its peak when it blows on average at 20-25 knots, with gusts as high as 40 knots. This suits advanced riders better as the shore break can be intimidating for beginners.

Palawan Island offers a stable and reliable Passat trade wind during the peak seasons. The kitesurfing peak season falls between October to March. During these months, the onshore and side onshore wind blows from the northeastern corners, with the wind speed ranging between 15 to 20 knots. You get the most affordable wind during the mid-day. However, the wind speed can extend up to 35 knots on certain days in the peak kiteboarding months, i.e., November, December, January, and February. The beginning of October is considered the early season, whereas the end of March, falls in the late season.&nbsp;

Adam’s bridge gets its name from the Abrahamic myth that Adam crossed the bridge on his way to stand repentant on Adam’s peak (a mountain in the centre of Sri Lanka) for 1000 years. It’s also known as Rama’s bridge which comes from the Indian epic Ramayana, where Rama created the bridge to rescue his wife Sita. Either way, it is a limestone chain of islands which it’s believed once made it possible to walk from Sri Lanka to India, and offers shallow and flat water for kitesurfing!&nbsp; There is not much else to do at Adam’s bridge apart from kitesurf and chill. The kite camps are the only places you’ll run into any other travellers, and the local area is very poor and undeveloped. You can head out and try some local food if you have your own transport, but most people come here and stay at one of the camps full board. Jaffna is a worthwhile day trip while you’re here, to see some of the Tamil Hindu area in the North of Sri Lanka. There are many temples to be seen and the old Jaffna fort, the locals are incredibly welcoming and lovely, and the vegetarian food is excellent and quite different in taste to the rest of Sri Lanka.

Adam's Bridge offers a flat water lagoon for kiteboarding with pumping wind during the summer, and choppy waves on the upwind side of the sandbar. In the winter the wind blows in the opposite direction and so the ocean side offers a stunning playground for hydrofoil kiteboarding and freestyle kitesurfing in offshore wind. With 8 months of wind in the year it’s unsurprising that Adam’s bridge is becoming more popular for kitesurfing, but it’s still very remote without much in the way of infrastructure close by and so isn’t anywhere as busy as the area around Kalpitiya.

The two seasons in Sri Lanka offer very different kitesurfing conditions. In the summer season from May until October the wind starts off a little lighter in the morning around 15-18 knots and by lunch time is generally blowing 25+ and even getting up to 40 knots some days. The lagoon has many shallow spots and it can be difficult to see where the water is shallow (ankle deep!), so be very careful when jumping and make sure you know it’s deep enough underneath you! There is only one kite school that teaches here, and they can give you all the information on where to kitesurf or jump, and offer a tractor to the spot and boat rescue. If you want to just kitesurf yourself that’s also possible and there’s another kite camp nearby, you’ll just have to kiteboard upwind from the launch a few hundred metres.Winter season from December until February the wind blows the opposite direction and only in the afternoon, meaning the ocean side is butter flat and the best for kitesurfing, but it is an offshore spot so more suited to advanced riders. It’s a magical place to hydrofoil as you have unspoilt kilometres to cruise up and down and the water at this time of year is blue and beautiful. Beginners can still learn to kitesurf in the lagoon or from a boat in this season, and the wind tends to be a bit lighter between 14-19 knots. Sri Lanka is warm all year, so board shorts and tshirt are all you need for kitesurfing, but sun protection is incredibly important as the sun is intense.
